In times when local government is challenged by the impact of austerity, and by pressures such as demographic change and a shifting relationship between state and citizen, robust knowledge and evidence are vital if the changes needed are to be well informed and wise, both in the short and longer term. The UK research base is a national asset, yet one that is inadequately harnessed to support local government, and the local government and research communities lack systemic means to engage productively on the scale that would benefit both.

The first Review ‘What Councils Need to Know about People with Learning Disabilities’, prepared by Dr. Paula Black, has been published by the LGA and is available below.
